State Police Endorse DeStefano, Says He is Best Choice for Gov.

First time state police union has endorsed in a gubernatorial primary

Hartford - John DeStefano - Democratic candidate for Governor - and Scott Slifka - Democratic candidate for Lt. Gov. - stood on the State Capitol steps with State Police Union President Steven Rief, and State Police Troopers to accept their unprecedented endorsement in the Democratic primary. The State Police Union represents more than 1,100 State Police Troopers, Sergeants, Master Sergeants and this is the first time that it has endorsed a gubernatorial candidate in a primary. The DeStefano campaign has already been endorsed by AFSCME Council 15 - representing thousands of local police officers from across Connecticut.

"John DeStefano has the best record when it comes to standing with working families," said Rief, "and that's why we support him for governor. He has a history of public service and support for law enforcement issues. He has a strong record of support for labor unions, and has the support of the majority of state union employees. DeStefano is an advocate of the working and middle class and workers' rights. He understands the importance of education and cares about communities in which we serve."

"My campaign is about helping working families," said DeStefano, "and I am honored to have the endorsement of the State Police. The men and women of the State Police deserve to have a true partner in the Governor's office, who will make sure they have the best equipment and training available. They also deserve to be paid a decent wage with good benefits. Unlike my Democratic opponent, I have earned the support of my police officers, and all city workers, by working in a collaborative fashion and always treating them with respect."
