Stamford Labor Organization Endorses DeStefano for Governor

Stamford - On Wednesday, June 7th, John DeStefano - Democratic candidate for governor - stood with members of United Auto Workers Local 2377 - representing nearly 400 Stamford municipal clerical and professional workers - to accept their endorsement for governor. Local 2377 President Gloria Kelly joined other members to explain why they're endorsing DeStefano.
"John understands what working families are facing," said Kelly - who works for the Stamford Health Dept. "I'm especially impressed that he's the only candidate with a universal health care plan," Kelly continued. "DeStefano has also consistently stood up for city employees in his hometown, treating them with respect, creating opportunities for them to succeed, and protecting pensions."
"I'm grateful that the Connecticut UAW and Local 2337 has placed their trust in me," said DeStefano. "Ultimately this election is about giving voters a real choice between four more years of the same or real change. Members of Local 2377 work hard for a living yet struggle to keep up with skyrocketing costs of health care, housing, and energy. As governor, I will do something about it - I will work for hard for people who work for a living. I am the only candidate with a universal health care plan, a substantive plan to lower energy costs, and a policy to make sure women receive equal pay for equal work."
The Connecticut United Auto Workers (UAW) Community Action Program Council recently endorsed DeStefano candidacy's for governor. The Connecticut UAW represents every active and retired UAW workers in the state, approximately 35,000 people, and includes Local 2337. DeStefano has been endorsed by 40 labor organizations, representing more than 160,000 workers. The AFL-CIO executive board has also endorsed his candidacy, the first time it has endorsed a Connecticut gubernatorial candidate in a primary.
