“At long last, Connecticut needs a governor willing to address the state’s dysfunctional relationship with its municipalities,” said Mayor Scott Slifka. ”A legacy of the Rowland-Rell administration has been to leave municipalities to fend for themselves, refusing to provide them with their fair share of state funding or, alternatively, to provide them with the necessary tools to address local challenges themselves. As a fellow Mayor, I have been particularly impressed with John DeStefano’s ability to revitalize a distressed city within these constraints. Moreover, his ability to articulate the challenges facing municipalities combined with his willingness to confront and speak out on the tough issues of the day, make him the candidate families from small, and large towns alike, need in the Governor’s office.”"I have decided to endorse John for governor because of my experiences with him,” said State Sen. Jonathan Harris. “He has the intellect and experience we need to lead the state. I served under him on the Blue Ribbon Commission and was impressed to see his grasp of issues from 30,000 feet or at the level of the most specific details. He was able to bring all kinds of people together - business, labor, Republicans, Democrats, small towns and big cities - around an ambitious plan to reform our broken property tax system."
“I am thrilled and honored that Scott, Jonathan, Art, Carolyn, Shari, and Maureen have endorsed my campaign for governor,” said DeStefano. “They have worked hard to make West Hartford a great place to live but understand that our families’ quality of life is threatened by a lack of leadership in the Governor’s office. Rising property taxes, persistent sprawl, and under-funded public education are serious issues that need innovative solutions. The support of these leaders in West Hartford is critical in our effort to build a winning Democratic coalition.”
John DeStefano has earned the endorsement of dozens of elected officials – including Lt. Gov. Kevin Sullivan - and hundreds of Democratic activists from across the state. Twenty-five labor unions representing 100,000 working men and women have also endorsed the DeStefano campaign. The campaign has also raised $2.8 million - $700,000 more than DeStefano’s Democratic opponent.
