I read A Mothers’ War in the New York Times Magazine. It is a great article about parents of people serving in the military upholding each other. It points to http://marineparents.com/ and now that I am back home, I follow the link to Georgette Frank's Memorial Day Essay. Please, go read these articles. It is okay if you don’t read the rest of my post. These articles are what are important. While your at it, if you haven’t read Trucandygirl, go out and read her blog as well.
Mayor DeStefano spoke to a gathering at the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ monument at East Rock this morning and Frank Chi wrote a great blog entry about the plans to restore the monument.
Tomorrow, we get to attend another candidates’ forum for the Gubernatorial candidates. It will be at the Sage American Grill in Chester. Whether or not you think some of the recent activities of our military are justifiable, one of the things that soldiers and sailors have fought for is our democracy. If you want to honor soldiers and sailors, do it by getting involved in our democracy. Come to the candidates’ forum on Tuesday.
One Wednesday, the mayor will address the Torrington Democracy for America Meetup at 26 East Main Street in Torrington. It is another chance to get involved, so if you can’t make it to Chester, come to Torrington. What I have always enjoyed about the Democracy for America Meetups is that, like my weekend on the Cape, they are fun and a great chance to meet new friends.
The week ends up with several events surrounding the Puerto Rican Festival and Parade, another good chance have a little fun. Democracy can be fun. Get involved.
