At a blogging meeting at campaign headquarters the other day, Shonu delivered a stinging blow to me. We were talking about the tone and style we wanted on the blog and she said that my writing sounded too much like CNN. While it is important that this blog be a news outlet for the campaign, it is also important that it be a community. If I hold an ideal in my mind for my writing, it is closer to E.B. White than to Wolf Blitzer.
Yesterday, I stumbled across a blog written by a member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee from Williamstown. I grew up in Williamstown and I really enjoyed reading her blog. When you get a chance, check out MargeBlog. While she does have a strong political bent to her writing, it has a powerful authenticity that really appeals to me. It also makes me think of another blog that I highlight every chance I get.
Trucandygirl is a ‘Proud U.S. Marines Wife’. She currently lives in Hawaii and writes her blog about her husband Ernesto who has recently arrived safely home from Iraq. As we think about our country’s involvement in Iraq, as we think about base closings, and as spend time the Memorial Day weekend remembering those have died in the line of duty, it is useful to think about the military wives, and Candy’s blog is a great blog to read.
This got me thinking. I read a lot of blogs. There are the various newsy blogs like Connecticut Local Politics, Connecticut News Junkie and Connecticut Law Blog.
There are the various ‘watch’ blogs for the 2nd CD, the 4th CD and the 5th CD.
There are the personal blogs of friends who are very politically active. My blog, Lon Seidman’s blog, Mike Reynold’s blog, John Howard’s Blog, Pax’s Blog, and Barking Dingo.
For other blogs and websites from Connecticut, I like to look at del.icio.us, GeoURL, as well as Feedmap. (Currently, there is a Feedmap for my blog, as well as for CT05 Watch, but I’m having problems getting this blog listed.
With that, my search continues for good blogs in Connecticut, especially ones that capture the personal stories that ultimately all our political activity should be about.
What are your favorite Connecticut blogs?
