Debate is an important part of any Democracy. In debates we spend time focusing on the things that we don’t agree about but as John Olson, head of the AFL-CIO and former Democratic Party Chair said you may not agree with me all the time, you may only agree with me 60% of the time – but be sure that I’m working hard to fight for the things that matter. Its important to use debates to identify common interests and use them to raise the party - to raise the issues. Olson was speaking to the 35th district Democrats on Saturday who were gathered for a campaign training session.

Mayor DeStefano too addressed the crowd and stated the importance of organizing early – like they do in the 35th. Also in attendance were several of the candidates for Secretary of State.

Tomorrow from 6:30-8:30 at the New Haven Hall of Records at 200 Orange Street the 3rd congressional district town chairs will be hosting a Secretary of State Candidates Forum. Mayor DeStefano will welcome all the declared Secretary of State Candidates who were invited to speak at a forum where they will be able to speak and answer questions from Democrats across the third district and around the state.

Six democrats have declared intentions to run for secretary of state including:

They have started early organizing and will begin to form a dialogue and debate about the issues important to the state, the office of the Secretary of the State and to the voters and voter integrity in Connecticut. It should be an interesting and informative evening. Debate is an important part of any Democracy and it is conversations like these that serve to enhance the political process – so I hope to see you there.
