This Week on the DeStefano Campaign

Posted by Aldon Hynes on May 23, 2005 - 10:19am.

Well, it’s graduation week. Today, Yale has its commencement and Friday SCSU has its commencement. The Mayor will be attending both of these events as well as stopping by the Betsy Ross Arts Magnet Middle School to wish the students well as they head off to perform at Carnegie Hall.

Betsy Ross serves five hundred middle school students, three hundred and fifty from New Haven and an additional one hundred and fifty from the surrounding suburbs. The school opened in 2002. The design of the school won First Place Project Team Award from the Connecticut Building Congress, in the K-12 School Category. ‘The award recognized design, team collaboration and cooperation, meeting budgets and schedules, and solving the project’s unique challenges.’ (http://www.high-profile.com/2003/jul/conn.html)

The Mayor will also be meeting with a biotech group and will give brief remarks at the Secretary of States Candidates’ night, which will be held Wednesday at 7 PM at the Hall of Records, 200 Orange Street in New Haven.

Education happens many different ways. It happens at schools like Yale, SCSU and Betsy Ross. It happens in discussions with biotech leaders. It happens at debates, such as will happen Wednesday. With luck, perhaps even this blog will be a little educational as well.
