Last night the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee sponsored a Gubernatorial Debate. There were many notable people there and I’ll skip over most of them. However, two important people to speak were Dianne Farrell, who ran against Shays in 2004 and whom many people are hoping will run against him in 2006 and Democratic State Chair Nancy DiNardo. Her comments were perhaps more closely related to another great debate that went on yesterday. By this, I mean the debate on this blog and on Connecticut Local Politics about whether Mayor DeStefano went to far in criticizing Jody Rell.

In her comments last night, Nancy DiNardo said that while she was not saying we would have been in a different situation with regards to Groton if Rell had of met with the President, the fact remains that Rell really hasn’t done anything for the State. I think it is important that we keep this in mind. Whether or not you think the submarine base could or should be saved, we do need an economic vision for the state, a vision where Connecticut is much better than 43rd job creation, a vision where we plan for the future, build a stronger infrastructure to encourage existing employers to stay in Connecticut and new employers to move in, a vision where our leaders work with everyone business leaders, labor leaders and community activists to bring new jobs to the state.John DeStefano has demonstrated that sort of vision and that sort of leadership and personally, I think he has every right to criticize political leaders who aren’t showing that sort of leadership.
Later, I shall post some of my thoughts about the debate, as I hope other members of the DeStefano team will.
