This Week on the DeStefano Campaign

Posted by Aldon Hynes on May 9, 2005 - 11:01am.

The big focus this week is the Mayor’s Fiftieth Birthday. On Wednesday, he will turn fifty and there will be a big celebration at 500 Blake Street. It will be a great time and also a large fundraiser. Together with other fundraising this week, we are projecting that this will push the Mayor’s total fundraising to over two million dollars. It would be great if you could attend. Please sign up here.

This isn’t the only mayoral birthday party this week. On Thursday, Mayor DeStefano will attend a birthday party for Mayor Mike Jarjura of Waterbury.

However, I don’t want people to get the impression that running a city and running for governor is nothing but parties. There are other issues demanding the Mayor’s attention.

This afternoon, the mayor will attend a meeting addressing the issue of people running red lights in New Haven. He will also be following closely developments on Senate Bill 920, sponsored in part by State Senator Martin Looney representing New Haven and Hamden and State Representative Juan Candelaria. This bill would “develop a Connecticut clean diesel plan to reduce the health risks from diesel pollution and to help the state meet federal air quality standards for fine particulate matter.”

To get a sense of the importance of this bill, I encourage everyone to read the Mayor’s Op-Ed in Sunday’s Hartford Courant.

Other important events include the groundbreaking at the Barnard Magnet School and a ceremony marking the opening of the City Farmers’ Market, which is the first Farmers’ market in the state to accept food stamps.

It will be another busy and exciting week for the DeStefano campaign.
