Wednesday evening, Mayor DeStefano addressed the Democracy for America (DFA) Meetup in Hartford. This is a group of progressive grassroots activists always looking for ways to get more involved. Many of the folks at the Meetup were old friends that I met during Gov. Dean’s 2004 presidential bid. I have a special place in my heart for Meetups, in part because I helped lead the DFA Meetups in Fairfield County for a long time.

The question and answer period was lively and probably could have gone on all night, but the Meetup had other important topics to cover so I brought an end to the Q&A with my question about expecting more.

I’ve now seen the Mayor meet with two Democratic Town Committees (DTCs). I’ve seen him meet with a labor group and a Meetup. It will take me a little while before I can recite his stump speech, but I’m beginning to feel that I know it.

However, the Mayor didn’t end off the stump speech with suggestions about how the attendees could become more involved in the campaign, so I asked him what he would like to see people who attended the Meetup do.

He asked everyone to continue the discussion on the blog, to discuss important issues and ways that we can all work together. He asked everyone to consider hosting house meetings where people can learn more about the Mayor, his policy ideas and have lively discussions about how we can all work together to help make Connecticut better.

The Mayor often talks about the importance of working together as a team to build a better Connecticut. He has asked us all to expect more of our political leaders. We should also expect more of ourselves. Please consider hosting a house meeting. Please join the discussion here about the issues that are important to you and provide your thoughts about how we can best address them. We are all in this together.

Mr. Mayor
If you insist on quoting a NYT columnist to buttress your economic program I suggest you use Krugman instead of Friedman.
I enjoyed the Hartford event but Friedmans premise is "corperatism is good".
He really isn't the guy you want to be associating with your campaign. Is he?
