The New Haven Register published an article about our blog launch today. Andy Bromage quotes Scott McLean, chairman of Quinnipiac University’s political science department, as saying that blogs are "obligatory, so that your campaign seems trendy and with the times." He doesn't believe that blogs are going to play a role in the gubernatorial campaign. He said, "It’s not going to raise money, it doesn’t knock on doors, it doesn’t register voters," McLean said. "My sense is they are just covering all their bases." To read the entire article go to the nhregister.com site.

What do you think? Can an online conversation impact this race? Was the Dean campaign just a one time phenomenon? Is the age of blogging over? Or has it just begun?

Comments

I think the Register article just goes to show how Scott McLean just doesn't "get it." Blogs are growing. Those of us who followed the blogs and joined the debate in the last election saw a very big impact - we did raise money, we did organize people to knock on doors, and the campaigns did listen to us and take our advice. I'm glad to see that this campaign is listening as well. I look forward to useing this blog to learn more in the months ahead.

Can we get a CT bloggers' summit scheduled for sometime in late April, early May. Blogging is bigger than just this campaign. It is a way for us to all come together around not just the gubernatorial race, but the efforts to get rid of Nancy Johnson, Rob Simmons, and Chris Shays.

Let's put a Dem in the governor's mansion, and let's propel Rosa DeLauro into a leadership position in a MAJORITY Party.

Is this going to be a forum to discuss what we need to do to get a Democrat elected, or is this blog going to be used to just to bash Rell and the Republicans as well as other Dem. Candidates?

We can sit all day long asking what this Blog is or is not going to be, or we can make it what we want it to be.

I for one am sick of the apathy in this state. Mayor DeStefano is for change in Connecticut and I am with him.

Carl--

Count me in for the Rell and Republican bashing!

And I, for one, have no problem speaking up to Democrats. It is up to the people of CT to hold their politicians accountable.

But the point of the whole enterprise should be to bring power to the people via the Democratic Party.

Oh lord, Ed Anderson aka TrueBlue has found DeStefano's blog. We DeStefano fans beware.

So Ed, two things: 1. JDS is running for Governor in 06 - he's not primaring Joe Lieberman. 2. The Coliseum is coming down!!!

Send my best to Chieppo and Arancio, but please don't show them how to turn on a computer. Seriously though, it's great to see Carl, TrueBlue and other diverse opinions posted and not just old-time JDS fans like me.

Hey Anonymous!

You are violating a couple of blogging basics. (like you don't refer to people by their real names, even if their identities are known to you.)

But what does an anonymous "old-time JDS fan" like you know about blogging?!!

And if you are going to refer to me by name, you might get my positions right. I am not against the Coliseum coming down. (nice try to smear me there.)

Finally, for the record, I have donated to the Mayor's campaign, and I was thinking about throwing a house party for him, so I'd suggest to a JDS insider like you that you show me a little effing respect.

Sorry dude, I really didn't mean to be mean. I am not up on the blogging basics, obviously. But when you partially outted yourself on that other comment string, my desire to confirm my surprised suspicions got the best of me...

Also didn't mean for joshing to come across as biting - I am duly chastied for that and my first offense from above.

My third offense was to not know what I was talking about. There's no helping the third, but I will definitely never do the first again and will work on the second.

Instead of just apologizing: I owe you now. You won't know where and you won't know when, but someday I'll have to do you a favor at my expense.
