DeStefano Press Release: Montville Democrats Endorse DeStefano
April 26, 2006
New Haven: Democratic gubernatorial candidate John DeStefano is pleased to announce that the Montville Democratic Town Committee (DTC) has endorsed his candidacy for governor, and will deliver the majority of the town's delegates to the Democratic convention on May 20th for DeStefano. The decision comes on the heels of DeStefano's recent visit to the Montville DTC.
Billy Caron, Deputy Chairman of the Montville Board of Selectman, Montville says, "John DeStefano has taken a real interest in the small towns in eastern Connecticut. He cares about small communities, and he's going to make property tax reform and changing the way we fund public education a priority in his administration. Small towns in eastern Connecticut need a leader who will make their needs a priority."
Jim Radgowski, Montville's Democratic Town Chair, believes, "John DeStefano is the candidate most responsive to the needs of eastern Connecticut. Furthermore, we need a candidate who will attract Democratic voters, and bring back our Democratic base to vote Democrat. John is that candidate."
Joe Jaskiewicz, Mayor of Montville, says, "John DeStefano has shown a stronger interest in the small towns in eastern Connecticut."
In response to the announcement of the endorsement DeStefano said, "I am grateful for Montville's support; it is absolutely critical for our campaign's success. For too long families in Connecticut have been left to languish as our Republican leadership has failed to tackle tough problems: rising property taxes, shrinking manufacturing base, and increasing insecurity about health care coverage. I believe we can solve these problems, and with Montvill'e support, we can get started Nov. 8!"
DeStefano has received the endorsement of dozens of elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, U.S. Rep. John Larson, former U.S. Congressman Sam Gejdenson, and Lt. Gov. Kevin Sullivan. More than 25 labor unions representing 100,000 working men and women have also endorsed DeStefano for governor. His campaign has raised more than $3.2 million - more than any Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Connecticut history.
