Rell handled Rowland Transition well, but Has Failed To Provide Leadership or Ideas to Help Struggling Connecticut families
New Haven-The DeStefano for Governor Campaign today launched a new television ad that gives Governor Jodi Rell credit for handling the Rowland transition, but states Rell has failed to provide the leadership or ideas to help Connecticut middle class and working families. In the ad, DeStefano cites skyrocketing health care bills, property taxes, and energy prices as evidence that Rell has failed to help middle class families and offers no vision how to move Connecticut forward.
The thirty second ad began airing on all major networks - and News 12 - Tuesday morning. It is the second ad of the general election for the DeStefano campaign and it is the first to mention Rell or her predecessor, John Rowland.
"Governor Rell deserves credit for handling well the transition from John Rowland. But Governor Rell has failed to provide the leadership or ideas to help Connecticut families that are struggling everyday to make ends meet. Skyrocketing health care costs, electric rates, and property taxes are hurting middle-class and working families, but Governor Rell has been asleep at the switch when it comes to helping Connecticut families," said John DeStefano.
"Connecticut families deserve a governor who will get things done to help them. From passing universal healthcare, to lowering electric rates, to freezing property taxes for seniors, as Governor, I am going to push hard in Hartford get things done to help Connecticut's hard working families," said DeStefano.
Mary Glassman, Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor, pointed out that Governor Rell's most recent ad touts the state as "on the path to becoming a national leader in job creation" at a time when the state ranks 43rd in job growth, according to the latest statistics of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
"Jodi Rell can't lead Connecticut in the right direction if she can't see the problems," Glassman said. "Our ads talk about real plans for Connecticut's future."
The ad's script is as follows:
DeStefano: I'm not going to sugar coat this. Jodi Rell handled the transition from John Rowland well---but then what? Healthcare bills, property taxes, higher energy prices---nothing gets done. As governor, I've got big ideas, beginning with universal health care, to lower costs for everyone. And I'm going to push hard in Hartford to get things done. It's time to change the channel.
Narrator: John DeStefano for Governor. Getting Things Done. For a change.
DeStefano: I'm John DeStefano and I approve this message.
