June 19, 2006
Ad about how DeStefano will fight for middle and working class families; DeStefano universal healthcare plan and working class roots.
New Haven - John DeStefano, Democratic candidate for governor, is unveiling today the first gubernatorial television ad of 2006. The ad will begin running statewide on Tuesday. The thirty second spot is about how DeStefano will fight for working and middle-class families, tells a little about DeStefano's working class background, and focuses on DeStefano's plan to provide universal health care in Connecticut. The spot will run on all CT major networks - including News 12 in Fairfield County.
"Today, the middle-class is hurting," says DeStefano, who says in the opening "my dad was a police officer. Back then, working people could scrimp and save and become middle-class. It was different time."
"As governor, I got big plans - starting with universal healthcare to lower costs and cover everyone, including children. And I pay for it by closing $300 million in big corporate loopholes. As governor, I'll never forget where I came from...or who I work for," says DeStefano.
"John DeStefano was the first candidate to propose a universal health care plan so it makes sense he's the first candidate to publicly engage voters about this critical issue," said Derek Slap - Communications Director for the DeStefano campaign. DeStefano's universal health care plan has been endorsed by many state lawmakers, including State Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney, State Sen. Jonathan Harris, State Rep. Denise Merrill, State Rep. Henry Genga, State Rep. Roberta Willis, and State Rep. John Geragosian.
"The ad also begins to introduce John DeStefano to families across the state, letting them know where he's from and what his values are," said Slap. "John's father was a New Haven police officer and he was raised at a time when the middle class could work hard and make ends meet."
