Secures 27 of 31 Votes to the State ConventionNew Haven: John DeStefano, Democratic candidate for governor, is proud to announce the support of New Britain Democratic Town Chair John McNamara.
"In New Britain, John DeStefano has emerged as an overwhelming choice to be the gubernatorial nominee in the run up to the Democratic State Convention," McNamara said in a statement citing property tax reform and universal health care as the key reasons in backing DeStefano's candidacy.
"The DeStefano agenda offers concrete solutions to New Britain residents hit hard by 40% assessment hikes just three years ago," said McNamara. "Governor DeStefano would make meaningful property tax relief a reality."
According to the New Britain Democrat, DeStefano "speaks with a passion and clarity that can win over undecideds and energize the Democratic base," while his Democratic opponent's Fairfield county strategy "would not significantly alter the status quo."
In addition to McNamara's endorsement, DeStefano has also secured the support of 27 of the 31 New Britain delegates, who will decide who receives the party's nomination at the state convention on May 20.
With less than three weeks until the convention, DeStefano has received the endorsement of dozens of elected officials, including Rep. Rosa DeLauro, U.S. Rep. John Larson, former U.S. Congressman Sam Gejdenson, and Lt. Governor Kevin Sullivan.
DeStefano has also the endorsement of many New Britain Democrats, including Shirley Black, Alderwoman; Paul Catanzaro, Alderman; Terry Gerratana, Former State Representative and Congressional Candidate; Donald DeFronzo, State Senator; Peter Tercyak, State Representative; John Geragosian, State Representative; and Tim O'Brien, State Representative.
Thirty labor unions, representing 120,000 working men and women, have also endorsed DeStefano for governor. His campaign has raised more than 3.2 million dollars - more than any Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Connecticut's history.
