MALLOY SAYS DESTEFANO & GLASSMAN WILL GROW JOBS & HELP BUSINESSES SUCCEED
New Haven: John DeStefano - Democratic nominee for governor - today received the endorsement of Stamford Mayor and former Democratic candidate for governor, Dan Malloy. Standing with DeStefano and Mary Glassman - Democratic nominee for Lt. Gov. - at Stamford's Government Center, Malloy said he looks forward to helping the Democratic ticket defeat Gov. Rell in November.
"Rising property taxes, health care premiums, and energy costs are hurting Connecticut's families and businesses," said Malloy. "Last month we felt the effects of the state's energy crisis in Stamford when massive power outages nearly shut down downtown and disrupted businesses. Gov. Rell offers no solutions and no plan. John DeStefano and Mary Glassman will provide leadership on these issues and start getting things done."
"I am honored to have the support of Dan Malloy," said DeStefano. "He's been a tremendous mayor in Stamford and understands what it means to run government efficiently and effectively. His help will be instrumental in defeating the Gov. and providing new leadership for Connecticut's families."
"Dan's support today is a significant step towards solidifying the strength of the Democratic Party in Connecticut and in winning in November," Glassman said. "I am proud to be standing here today with two mayors whose records of accomplishment in office serve to highlight the need for a forward-thinking governor."
DeStefano and Malloy faced each other in the Democratic primary, which was decided by less than 5,000 votes. Throughout the primary both DeStefano and Malloy pledged to support whoever won. Since the primary recent polls have indicated that Democrats have started to come together behind the candidacy of DeStefano and Glassman.
"I am not only urging Democrats to support John and Mary, I am urging all of Connecticut's families to vote for them in November," said Malloy. "It's time to get our economy moving, to work with the business community to start creating jobs. By not articulating a strategy to address our state's energy crisis or reduce skyrocketing health care costs, Gov. Rell is failing our state's businesses and families. Voters have a right to ask, where is Gov. Rell?"
"I am proud that since the campaign season began, Mayor DeStefano and Mayor Malloy have been talking about important issues facing the citizens of Connecticut - stagnant job growth, lack of affordable and adequate health care and stronger support for education from preschool to higher education," said Glassman. "With exactly two months away from Election Day, voters are still waiting to hear from the Governor."
