This Week on the DeStefano Campaign

Posted by Aldon Hynes on April 26, 2005 - 11:16am.

One of the reasons I was so interested in working with the DeStefano campaign is that I want to encourage as many people as possible to get more engaged in how our towns, cities, and state are run. Many people have no idea how to get started. I hope this blog will be one way that people can become more informed and more involved. I hope people will join the mailing list to get updates and I hope people will take advantage of other opportunities to get more involved.

One such opportunity is the Democracy School. The first class of the second session of Democracy School starts this evening, and Mayor DeStefano will address the class. After this, the Mayor will head over to Stratford to address a leadership education class for members of the Teamsters.

Tomorrow, the Mayor will visit St. Ann's club. This is a large monthly dinner of an Italian fraternal order in Norwalk. Personally, I hope to hear a little bit about his recent trip to Italy and what we can learn cities in Italy to help make our cities better.

What do you drive?

This Earth Day, I’ve spent a bit of time thinking about the small ongoing discussions that we all face in our day to day life. People have repeatedly pointed out to me that Mayor DeStefano drives a hybrid. Driving a hybrid isn’t a big sacrifice. I drive a 2001 hybrid which is one of the best cars I’ve driven in years, and each year they get better. However, it does reflect the sort of choices that we make in our day-to-day life.

Earth Day

I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome and wise comments. In particular, I want to pick up on “JGA”’s comments about organizing, morality, and new ideas. I hope this blog can really help people across Connecticut with this, and I plan on coming back to these themes.

Website Vooweb.com provides the biggest collection of professional Web 2.0 Templates. Web 2.0 Templates - its a website templates which made by world-class designers. Buy our Web 2.0 Templates | A family cooking recipes with hundreds of healthy, whole-food cooking recipes for the home cook. Healthy Food cooking Recipes For Your Entire Family | List of Samui villas and houses for rent on Koh Samui. Koh Samui villas for rent and sale on a private Samui community on the southern tip of the island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand.

Earth Day provides a good focus for this. From a morality perspective, the religious amongst us will recognize that we are called to be good stewards of God’s creation. Yet unfortunately, too often public policy doesn’t reflect this. So, we need to organize as concerned citizens. Thirty-Five years ago, twenty million people across America participated in the first Earth Day. Now, it is an annual event. The EPA has a website about Earth Day. You can follow the links to local activities, but unfortunately, none are listed for Connecticut.

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection has a website dedicated to Earth Day with a lot of great ideas. I hope everyone goes out and does something special for Earth Day.

Mayor DeStefano has already shown great commitment to the environment. After I had breakfast with him to discuss the website, we chatted briefly beside my 2001 hybrid car. He has a newer hybrid and we compared mileage. It is great to be working with a person that takes a personal interest in cleaner and more efficient transportation.

Every election cycle, someone asks the backward looking question, “are you better off now than you were four years ago?” As people graduate from school or interview for new jobs, inevitably someone asks the question, “What do you want to be doing five years from now?”

Today, I am starting my new job as Blogmaster for the DeStefano campaign. If you asked me five years ago what I would be doing today, I would have never imagined that I would be blogging for a gubernatorial campaign, yet here I am.
